Saint-Guinefort

Saint-Guinefort, protecteur des enfants. Selon la légende, le lévrier Guinefort avait attaqué un serpent qui voulait mordre l'enfant de son maître, le châtelain de Villars-les-Dombes. Son maître le cru fautif et le tua. Comprenant sa méprise, il fit enterrer sa dépouille qui fut vénérée du XIIIème siècle jusqu'en 1930, malgré les tentatives de l'Église pour l'en empêcher. Cet imprimé est conçu comme une image votive pour restaurer le culte improbable d'un saint animalier. A4 sur papier recyclé

Saint Guinefort, Protector of Children. According to legend, the greyhound Guinefort attacked a snake that was about to bite his master’s child. Believing the dog guilty, his master killed him. Realizing his mistake, he buried the dog’s remains, which were venerated from the 13th century until 1930 despite the Church's efforts to suppress the practice. This print is designed as a votive image to revive the improbable cult of an animal saint. A4 on recycled paper.
